If the European blue flags wave on the most beautiful beaches and seaside resorts with best services, the orange ones, awarded by the Italian Touring Club, are the mark for tourist and environment quality in the Italian inland.
For being awarded this prestigious acknowledgment, a resort must be distinguished for its engagement in the valorisation of the cultural patrimony, for policies aimed to protect the environment, for the quality of its facilities for tourists and for the variety of its typical products.
The Marches are the third region in Italy for number of orange Flags, after Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. This is an optimal result, which recognizes the great engagement of all the territory in the conservation of the artistic beauties and their acclimatization in the tourist promotion.
Two of the 14 rewards are found in the Province of Ascoli Piceno: Ripatrasone, thanks to its sight that gives it the title of "Belvedere of the Piceno", and Acquaviva Picena with its medieval Rocca.
Four flags in the Province of Macerata: San Ginesio, charming city of art on the Blue Mountains; Urbisaglia, for the heterogeneity of the tourist attractions, like the archaeological Park; Sarnano, for the dedication to tourism and Montelupone for the great care of green areas.
One flag goes into the young new Province of Fermo with Monterubbiano, for the warm hospitality of its ancient village.
In the Province of Pesaro three of the four orange flags do not need presentations: Gradara, Saint Leo and Mondavio, which have already been for a long time locality celebrated for their artistic historical patrimony and their tourist offer. Mercatello on the Metauro, instead, sees recompense to the efforts to make visit to its cultural patrimony more and more interesting.
The province of Ancona sees three orange flags over the resorts of Genga, famous for its natural caves, Ostra and Corinaldo for their history and monuments.
